Astropad Studio with Apple iPad Pro 10.5, a replacement for a graphics tablet?

Using a graphics table for pro photoshop retouching is integral, if you have something like the Cintiq listed below is a dream and a luxury most cannot or will not invest in.

I am in that boat, I'm not a graphic designer and this would be overkill for me so I like many others have opted for a more basic solution like the Wacom Intuos but what if you could have both?

'Opted for a more basic solution like the Wacom Intuos but what if you could have both?'

I bought the new iPad Pro 10.5 with the Apple Pencil and you know what its great, Lightroom allows incredibly fast balancing and selecting of images that is so much quicker than a traditional computer. Don't believe, me try it.

'is so much quicker than a traditional computer. Don't believe, me try it.'

Normally app's that are trying to solve professional processes fail miserably, they just do not work for pro's and are mitigated into being used to create cat videos. I'm looking at you Adobe Clip. But this one works and it doesn't just work, it is incredible. Enter Astropad.

MORE TO COME!!!!

Much love,

Eli Samuel.

A Little About Me. #bio #nerd #aspiration

My name is Eli Samuel and I have been a photographer for over 10 years. I think I may have come out of the womb holding a camera! Lol, I have shot most kinds of photography including pictures of family, strangers, events, street life, weddings, studio portraits, concert images, and friends, though I prefer to shoot fashion so I founded SAMUEL VISION to service fashion/editorial and corporate advertising.

In my heart and if you know me, I am a little nerdy. I am a “photo enthusiast” as well as a passionate photographer. Blogging is my way of giving back. I read all the posts published by our heroes in our industry every day like Steve Huff, Ken Rockwell etc.  So I thought to myself, stop being selfish!

My dream is to grace the cover of Vogue Italia. I am coming for you Vogue! Help me get there.

Advertising, SEO and me.

Wanted to share some of my thoughts on my ongoing process of marketing. This has been a difficult one for me, I genuinely just want to shoot. I find it really difficult, as do a lot of creatives to post regularly. There is also so many options and posting to them all is so challenging.

I find it creatively draining, so I just wanted to share some of the ways that I try (and fail lol) to offset my weaknesses and to leverage my strengths.

  1. Use a service like Crowdfire  - https://www.crowdfireapp.com/ You can post to all your networks at once and schedule the post times based using algorithms.
  2. Insprie others to help you with the parts your not so good at. Ask for help, I do it all the time!
  3. Product matters more than anything - learn, perfect and dedicate a portion of your week to getting better.

Anyway just wanted to throw that out there quickly, let me know what you guys think!

Much love,

Eli Samuel.

Zeiss Batis 85mm f1.8 for Sony E Mount Rolling Review - Sony A7RII Camera Rolling Review. - Insights from Fashion Photographer, Eli Samuel of Samuel Vision.

Thinking face ha lol..... Zeiss Batis 85mm F 1.8 Lens for Sony E mount unboxing - Insights from a fashion photographer.

I just received this baby in the mail today, I replaced the Sony 90mm Macro f2.8 G Master. I have a great love for the 90mm Macro, I have spoken about my observations and opinions on this wonderful lens before but just to recap here is my thought on the 90mm.

Sony 90mm Macro f2.8 G Master.

  • Very sharp, actually too sharp in my view. For what I shoot the bokeh is harsh and feels nervous. It is not a serious problem, I am splitting hairs here but it is why I switched.
  • Super fast focus.
  • Accurate.
  • Lighter than you think.
  • Amazing image quality and colour.
Very sharp, actually too sharp in my view.
— Eli Samuel.

The only reason that I changed was the fall off of out of focus areas, it is super small change but I like the rendition better on the Zeiss.

I will update once I shoot with this lens again and see how it goes. Super excited!

Much love,

Eli Samuel.

Sony A7RII Camera Rolling Review. - Insights from Fashion Photographer, Eli Samuel of Samuel Vision.

PART TWO (22nd of AUGUST, 07):

I want to update this review on my current progress with shooting with the Sony A7Rii. I have found an incredible resource in correcting Sony biggest problem with video in comparison with a company like Canon. Colour.

I am not going to repeat the obvious and argue why the colour is more pleasing on other systems, there is a lot of other better blogs out there and it can be subjective. This is about practically, a pro doesn’t care about silly details. All that matters is this will save you time in grading because this colour profile near perfect. The best part is that this is $15, just buy it and set it then forget that Sony’s reds and greens look like crayons. Lol. One note I want to add, I have read from people it doesn’t work as well in daylight. I believe this is because your using auto white balance and not changing the colour profile properly. Read the PDF they provide to the letter, you will get good results.

Here is some example of some of my latest stuff with this picture profiles enabled, it also works on images as well! FYI.

Clip also required almost no colour correction, there was only one small LED panel on set. Made my life so much easier!

I will report more on my finding as I go.

PART ONE (JULY, 11th, 2017):

I just upgraded to the Sony A7rii and here are my thoughts. I replaced the Sony A7ii and the Sony A7S with the A7Rii and A7R. I will update this post as I go with my insights.

A couple of years ago I used to shoot Canon, my last bodies were the 5D Mark iii and the 6D. My opinion is that this was a period in the industry that marked a standard of image quality that does not need to improve for most practical purposes.

"A standard of image quality that does not need to improve for most practical purposes."

A bold statement I know but give me a moment to explain, 5D/6D provided clean ISO output up to 3200 and a decent megapixel count. You do not need more. So why upgrade?

"You do not need more. So why upgrade?"

I will focus on three areas to start this rolling review. Mirrorless practicality, video performance, and image quality. Let's get into it.

Mirrorless Practicality:

The EVF (electronic viewfinder) has helped me become a better photographer. I can focus on framing and composition alone. My attention is purely set on achieving this and directing my model or subject we have enough to think about when we are shooting.

Video Performance:

Canon you should have listened to us, for goodness sakes we used to have the platinum membership. We shoot professionally and have done for over 10 plus years. What does that say? We cancelled because you were utterly incapable of managing your own future, Canon.

Can you tell I am mad?

Canon often relegates pro features to pro $10,000+ bodies where Sony has consistently offered features like S-Log and/or 4K in even its consumer bodies. This is unacceptable Canon.

Enough of my rant, here is the first part of a campaign that we are shooting for Studio Pilates.

This is shot with the Sony A7S and the ATMOS FLAME
http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/prod10909.htm
http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/prod13758.htm

This combination produces great results. Comment below with your thoughts!

Image Quality:

The image quality is exceptional, there is enough on the internet about this. I am going to avoid the obvious and focus on what makes this body great for me.

A feature called Eye AF, the A7Rii tracks the eye of my subject across the frame and lets me get on with shooting. The hit rate has been 95% plus, far better than the older Sony A7ii and forget the Canons.

"This is not even in the same world as other cameras and makes it a joy to shoot with."

Most pros, myself included, use just one focus point, lock it and recompose. With the R, I set up custom control over the point and put it somewhere near the face and it just locks. It does an amazing job especially if you have a modeling light switched on, on your strobes.

"It is bloody good. Watching it lock on to the model's eyeballs around the frame is a thing to behold."

Social Media influence - Sony A7RII Camera Rolling Review. - Insights from Fashion Photographer, Eli Samuel of Samuel Vision.

Brand recognition.

Couple thoughts.

What does it take to be a successful influencer?
How do I use social media for my career?
What techniques can I use to garner attention to my skill set?
How do I market my ideas and get attention from potential viewers?

Follower based social networks like Instagram or Snapchat are an interesting enigma, when I was in Los Angeles, I shot an Instagram influencer, Perkins Bien-Aime. Remy Martin paid $5000 for one image.

Do you think I charged enough? Nope.

Do you think I charged enough? Nope.

Why? ‘Because people follow people not brands.’

f have a vision or a dream conjuring stirring in your mind about how you can get your art and skill set before your audience. Social media is a key method to getting your work out there.

Ask yourself these questions:

What is your media identity?
What is your unique signature?
What techniques can I use to Gardner attention?

Let's use a controversial figure for an example. Terry Richardson is a force to be reckoned with. Terry has a signature that is distinct and highly identifiable. His marketing team has perpetuated the bad boy photographer persona owned. Bad press of him assaulting models is rampant.

Is Terry Richardson an Artist or a Predator?
Terry Richardson, displaced from his old photography studio on the Bowery by a high-end fitness chain, was at his new…nymag.com

As controversial as this is, this man commands more money in one session than most earn in one year.

‘You better start listening.’

This marketing strategy, whether right or wrong is successful. Create a signature to give birth to your identity. Not an easy task but it is something to ponder over.

Much love,

Eli Samuel.
